Broadneck upsets Severna Park

6-3 win gains Tier II semi

LAUREL - Second-seeded Broadneck used an opportunistic offense and tight-checking defense to upset top-seeded Severna Park, 6-3, in the Maryland Scholastic Hockey League's Eastern Conference final last night at the Gardens Ice House.

Cole Divelbliss and Pat Wagner had two goals each for the Bruins. Mitch Belisle had two goals for Severna Park.

The Bruins (8-4) advanced to today's 4 p.m. Tier II public schools semifinal against Howard, a surprise winner over Atholton on Friday in the Howard Conference final.

"Our kids have never been here, so they didn't know they were supposed to lose," said Bruins coach Bob Atkinson. "They played their hearts out."

Good Counsel 6, Boys' Latin 0: The Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference champion Lakers (11-4-3) were routed by the Falcons (10-0-1) in the MSHL Tier II private schools final.

The Falcons advanced to Friday's Tier II championship game against the MSHL's public schools champion. That game will begin at 5 p.m.
