Fire forces family of three from home

A one-alarm fire Sunday night forced an Ellicott City family of three out of their home, but they escaped without injury, as Howard County firefighters followed a department truck equipped with a snowplow to fight the blaze.

Howard fire Lt. Dennis E. Beard said the fire started on the front porch of a detached home in the 5600 block Waterloo Road and was reported at 9:56 p.m. Firefighters from five county fire stations had extinguished the blaze by 12:49 a.m. Monday, leaving the house with smoke and water damage.

Joseph Ly, his wife and child went to stay with friends, Beard said.
