Selonaus A. Overbey, 81, child care provider

Selonaus A. Overbey, a former housekeeper and child care provider, died of cardiac arrest Feb. 8 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Northeast Baltimore resident was 81.

Miss Overbey, who retained her maiden name, was born and raised in Person County, N.C., where she graduated from high school.

She worked as a housekeeper and day care provider in Danville, Va., before moving to Baltimore in the early 1970s. She had lived on Lawnview Avenue in recent years.

Miss Overbey was married for many years to William C. Cunningham, a meatpacker who died in 1982.

She enjoyed attending and arranging family gatherings.

She was a member of Grace Christian Baptist Church, 1107 N. Broadway, where services were held Friday.

Miss Overbey is survived by three sons, Hildred Overbey of Philadelphia and Lumus Overbey and Kranston Overbey, both of Baltimore; two daughters, Artensie Overbey and Veatress Reid, both of Danville; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great- grandson.
