2 killed, 2 injured in separate crashes

NORTHEAST - Two people died and two were injured in two separate automobile accidents yesterday, state police said.

A car driven by a 17-year-old Perryville resident crossed the center line of the 1100 block of West Old Philadelphia Road about 12:45 a.m., striking a car driven by William Arthur Schreffler, 52, of Edgewater, who was killed instantly, police said. Schreffler's wife, Dorothy Schreffler, 51, was taken to Harford Memorial Hospital. The 17-year-old, whom police did not identify, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

At 8:30 a.m., Taylor Kathryn Welch, 19, of Elkton was driving her sport utility vehicle east on Route 273 in Elkton when it flipped, striking several trees. Welch died at the scene, police said.
