Kaese, Carl Wayde

On Friday, January 31, 2003, CARL WAYDE KAESE, 77, Honored World War II Veteran, died at age 77 from complications of pneumonia at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md. He is survived by his four children; Ronald W. Kaese, Deborah Lee Fuchsluger, Sandra Kay League, Cheryl Lynn Rockwell; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brotherMark Kaese; and two sisters Gladys Longerbeam and Lois West. Wife, Leona Glass Kaese died January 20, 1990 from complications of breast cancer. Carl grew up in the Appalachian farming community of Accident, Md. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945, earning an Air Medal with 8 oak leaf clusters. He married in 1947 and moved to Baltimore four years later, eventually making a career out of working for Bethlehem Steel. In 1961, Carl and Leona bought their first and only home in Baltimore - a new townhouse. In 1975 they purchased some land in West Virginia with a small cabin and spent most of their leisure time fixing up the property. Over the years, Carl suffered from asbestosis, a shattered ankle, retracted bowel surgery, four heart attacks and two strokes. The last stroke caused the two bouts of pneumonia that lead to his death. Services will be held at the family residence in Baltimore this Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
