Man is sought in armed robbery of gas station

February 14, 2003

State police in Westminster were seeking a man armed with a handgun and a knife who reportedly robbed a gasoline station near Eldersburg and the Baltimore County line yesterday afternoon.

The man entered the Liberty Shell station in the 2800 block of Liberty Road just before 1 p.m. and demanded money from a 53-year-old male employee at the cash register, police were told. The robber displayed a handgun and a folding knife, and took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash drawer, police said.

Officers used a helicopter and dogs to search the area where the man was said to have fled on foot, toward Oakland Mills Road. Police described the man as Hispanic, in his early 20s, 5 feet 6 inches tall and of medium build. He was wearing blue jeans, a red shirt, a dark leather jacket and a dark bandanna on his head.

Anyone with information is asked to call the state police Criminal Investigation Section at 410-386-3000.
