Farmers & Mechanics is taking part in U.S. 1 loan program

Farmers & Mechanics Bank has announced its participation in the Route 1 Redevelopment Loan Program initiated by the Howard County Economic Development Authority. The program was established to encourage redevelopment of historic business corridors.

The bank has allocated $10 million to finance owner-occupied properties along U.S. 1. Loans with discounted interest rates and fees are available for new and existing businesses, as incentives to new construction, additions, refurbishing storefronts, landscaping and job creation. Citizens and Allfirst banks are also participating in the program.

Agriculture meeting slated Feb. 24 at fairgrounds

The Howard County Mid-Winter Ag Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 in the dining hall at the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship.

The topic will be new invasive weed species and methods of control. Presentations will focus on the needs and concerns of farmers and other large-scale landowners. Handouts will be available.

The meeting is co-sponsored by the Howard Soil Conservation District, Maryland Cooperative Extension-Howard County and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Registration is requested by Feb. 20.
