Man found dead in creek after falling from boat

A 45-year-old man was found dead yesterday morning in Mill Creek near Ferry Point Yacht Basin in Arnold, county police said, apparently after having fallen from his boat home.

The man's name was not released by police yesterday pending notification of his family, said Officer Charles Ravenell, a police spokesman. Police do not suspect foul play, he said.

Suspect in husband's killing on home detention

A 58-year-old Shady Side woman charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 66-year-old husband last month has been released on home detention, county prosecutors said yesterday.

Terry Harriett Pierce Eslin will stay with her son in his Harbor Drive home in Annapolis, District Court Judge Martha F. Rasin ruled Tuesday.

Two judges previously had ordered her held without bail in the Jan. 17 slaying at the couple's home on Snug Harbor Road in Shady Side.

The Tuesday hearing had been scheduled during her initial appearance in District Court, said her defense attorney, James C. Cawood Jr., and Rasin decided to proceed with the hearing even though a Circuit Court judge denied bail in a second hearing just days earlier.

Prosecutors called both Rasin's decision to proceed and her decision to release the woman to home detention "extremely unusual."
