Corrections

February 05, 2003

An article in yesterday's editions incorrectly reported that the National Collegiate Athletic Association is investigating alleged recruiting violations involving the University of Maryland football team. The university itself is conducting an investigation.

A headline in yesterday's editions gave an incorrect amount for President Bush's proposed budget for 2004. The correct amount is $2.23 trillion.

In yesterday's coverage of the destruction of the space shuttle Columbia, the melting temperature of aluminum, which forms the shuttle's airframe, was reported incorrectly. Pure aluminum melts at 1,250 degrees Fahrenheit, and alloys have higher melting temperatures, depending on the mixture of other metals.

The Sun regrets the errors.
