WINE OF THE WEEK

February 05, 2003|By Michael Dresser

2000 Beaulieu Vineyard Beauzeaux, NapaValley, Signet Collection ($24). When stuffy old Beaulieu Vineyards cracks even a lame joke, it's news. B.V.'s Beauzeau (pronounced Bozo) is an intensely fruity, eclectic blend of red grapes including zinfandel, lagrein, charbono, petite sirah and valdigue (I told you it was eclectic). It offers wild berry flavors, some raspberry and a hint of chocolate in a medium-bodied wine. A little rough, it needs to be served with food - preferably pasta or red meat - to shine. B.V. should rethink the price, which is a bit aggressive.
