McDermott is named to senior post in systems security

Tom McDermott has been named senior vice president and head of the information assurance practice at Scientific & Engineering Solutions Inc.

McDermott will offer high-level consulting and systems engineering of national and enterprise security solutions for the company's customers. He will also focus on integrating commercial security products with the government information assurance infrastructure.

As the former deputy director for information system security at the National Security Agency, McDermott was responsible for planning, programming, research and acquisition of information security and cryptologic security solutions for the Department of Defense and other national security customers.

Scientific & Engineering Solutions' headquarters is in Annapolis Junction in Howard County.

Koffel Associates adds 3 to engineering staff

Mark Aaby, fire protection and life safety engineer, has joined Koffel Associates Inc., a fire protection engineering firm.

David Klepitch, senior fire protection and life safety engineer, is returning to Koffel Associates after a six-month hiatus, and Robert Webster, who is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at the Johns Hopkins University, also has joined the company.

Koffel Associates has its headquarters in Ellicott City. The company has a satellite office in Niantic, Conn.
