Police investigating reports of gunshots in a North Baltimore neighborhood last night found an unidentified man dead on a street - the second fatal shooting in the city in less than six hours.

The victim, shot in the back and chest, was found lying in the 5600 block of Northwood Drive near St. Dunstans Road in the Cameron Village neighborhood, police said.

The body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy and possible identification through fingerprints.

Earlier, a 60-year-old man was shot in his West Baltimore apartment and died less than half an hour later at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.

The victim, Thomas Watson, was found by his roommate about 4:40 p.m., lying on the living room floor of his first-floor apartment in the 600 block of N. Calhoun St., said Detective Sean Jones. He had been shot at least once in the upper torso.

Police knew of no suspect or motive in either case, and asked anyone with information to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
