BOYS

Tristram Thomas

McDonogh, indoor track and field

The sophomore barely missed two meet records at the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championships while winning three events and helping the Eagles to a third-place finish Friday at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.

Thomas, the Baltimore All-City/County Cross Country Runner of the Year, won the 1,600 meters in 4 minutes, 27.7 seconds. That was 0.9 of a second off the meet record and more than six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Then, he won the 3,200 in 9:54, three seconds off the meet record and eight seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

In the 3,200 relay, Thomas teamed with senior Luke Stewart, junior Rory Sanborn and sophomore Brian Weiss to record a winning time of 8:16.9. GIRLS

Claire Hutchinson

McDonogh, swimming

The Eagles' sophomore won four events and set two meet records Sunday at the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland swimming championships at UMBC. She finished the season undefeated in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.

Hutchinson set a meet record of 1 minute, 55.61 seconds in the 200 free and 5:02.48 in the 500 free as the Eagles finished in a tie with Notre Dame Prep, which had won the previous eight titles. She also helped the Eagles to victory in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Hutchinson, who was unbeaten in the 500 free during her high school career, set school records this season in the 200 (1:54.10) and 500 (5:00.28) free. Both times qualify her for All-America consideration.
