O'Malley center offers computer scanning class

O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road, Odenton, offers these programs:

A computer scanner workshop will be offered from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Dick Smith will be the instructor. The cost is $3.

Marge Torrance, trip coordinator at the senior center, is accepting reservations for a trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., planned for March 2-6. The trip includes four nights at the Wyndham Myrtle Beach Resort. Rooms feature an ocean view from a private balcony. The trip also includes four buffet breakfasts, three shows, outlet shopping and round-trip transportation. The price is $387 per person for double occupancy or $486 for single occupancy. Torrance is available at the center from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Health programs, music planned at Pascal center

Pascal Senior Center, at 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie, has scheduled programs for next month:

Healthy Eating Series: Special diets, 12:30 p.m. Feb. 5; reading food labels, 12:30 p.m. Feb. 12.

Alan Schwartz and John Tucker will perform a free piano concert of classical music, ragtime and Broadway show tunes at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 6.

Susan Knight, program director for the Department of Aging's Senior Health Insurance program, will explain long-term-care insurance at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 6.

Helen Sank will lead a sing-along at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 7. Participants can sing, hum, clap or tap along with old and new songs.

Bowling trips are scheduled for Feb. 10 and 24 at AMF Bowling Center in Glen Burnie. The cost is $3 for two games of ten-pin bowling and shoe rental. A van will leave the center at noon and return at 2:15 p.m.

Free vision, glaucoma and cataract screenings will be offered Feb. 11. Register for appointments at the information desk.

Valentine special: Kevin Muldrew will sing the music of Nat King Cole at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 14. Audience participation is encouraged. The event is free and open to the public.

The movie Bojangles will be shown at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 21. Gregory Hines portrays the legendary entertainer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson.

Paul Stilwell, author of The Golden Thirteen: Recollections of the U.S. Navy's First Black Officers, will speak to members of the center at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 26.

A van trip will be taken to Banneker Douglas Museum to view the exhibit Black Watermen of the Chesapeake from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 27. Participants will have lunch at Old Country Buffet afterward. A commitment fee of $2 will be charged to reserve van space, plus $6.40 for the buffet lunch. Sign up at the trip desk by Feb. 19.

Book Club: Members will discuss the book The Poet and the Murderer on Feb. 28.

Maryland City site offers classes in arts, fitness

Maryland City Senior Activity Site, at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, 8402 Brock Bridge Road, Laurel, will offer the following classes:

Line dancing: 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursday.

Drawing and sketching: 10 a.m. Tuesdays.

Crafts: 10 a.m. Tuesdays.

Painting: 1 p.m. Tuesdays.

Tai chi: 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Quilting: 1 p.m. Thursdays.

Low-impact aerobics: 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The activity site is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 410-222-4464.

Pets on Wheels: Maureen English of the Department of Aging's Pets on Wheels Program will be on hand with her poodle, Monty, at 11 a.m. today at Brooklyn Park Senior Center. 410-222-6869.

Mini-massages: Mary Ann Roesler, a certified massage therapist, will be giving mini-massages from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. tomorrow at Annapolis Senior Center. Appointments are required. 410-222-1818.

Ballroom dance: Brooklyn Park Senior Center will offer "Beginning Ballroom Dance" from noon to 1 p.m. starting Monday at the center, 202 Hammonds Lane. The class is free to adults 55 years or older. Registration is required. 410-222-6847.

Military benefits: O'Malley Senior Center will sponsor a program, "Tricare for Life," at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 5 at the center, 1275 Odenton Road. A representative from Fort Meade's health benefits office will be on hand to answer questions. 410- 222-6227.

Congressional aide: Ann Irby, constituent liaison for 3rd District Democratic Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin, will be on hand from 11 a.m. to noon Feb. 6 at O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road. Irby will discuss assistance from federal agencies, pending legislation and national issues. 410-222-6227.

Cardiac health: North Arundel Hospital, in cooperation with O'Malley Senior Center, will offer a program on cardiac health at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 11 at the center, 1275 Odenton Road. Signs and symptoms of cardiac disease, risk factors and the importance of diet and exercise will be discussed. 410-222-6227.
