Ahern, Florence Hoff

On January 26, 2003, FLORENCE HOFF AHERN, in Newport Beach, California. Born August 2, 1908 in Baltimore, Maryland, daughter of Snowden Hoff, Sr., and Florence Davis Hoff, twin of Snowden Hoff, Jr. of Baltimore (died 1998), widow of David Foran Ahern (died 1984). Survived by son Thomas Snowden Ahern of Newport Beach and granddaughter Julianne Ahern Williams of Sunland, California. A 1930 graduate of Goucher College, she was an All-American in field hockey and in lacrosse, as were her twin brother and nephew. For years, she taught at Roland Park Country School and refereed field hockey and lacrosse. She was later with World Book for over 30 years. She lived at 3515 North Calvert Street in Baltimore from 1926 to 1993, when she moved to California. A Memorial Service will be held in April at the Cathedral Church of the Incarnation followed by interment of ashes at Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy, Maryland.
