Roots Market to hold Women's Health Day, featuring samples

Roots Market in Clarksville, a natural foods store, will sponsor a Women's Health Day from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 8.

Samples of specialty foods that can support women's health, such as soy products, will be available. Experts on vitamins will offer free samples, and representatives from skin-care companies will demonstrate their products.

The independently owned store was opened 2 1/2 years ago by Jeff Kaufman and Jody Cutler.

George Vaeth Associates awarded UM contract

George Vaeth Associates Inc. of Columbia was recently awarded a contract for interior design services on Queen Anne's Hall at the University of Maryland, College Park. The firm is part of a design/build team led by the McAlister Schwartz Co.

Work will begin early this year.

Carolyn Adams to discuss state historical gardens

Green Angels Landscaping will sponsor a talk by Carolyn Adams of the Maryland Historical Society, "Historical Gardens of Maryland," at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at a location in Columbia.

The Columbia-based landscaping firm plans to create an interpretation of a period garden in which students at Patapsco Female Institute may have learned about flowers and trees. The garden will be shown at the Maryland Home and Garden Show from Feb. 28 to March 2 and March 7-9 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium.
