Bel Air High band alumni to honor `Mr. D'

January 26, 2003

An alumni group is forming a Bel Air High School Alumni Band made up of former band students taught by Raymond Dombrowski to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his arrival at Bel Air High School.

"I've gotten 100 signed up to play in the reunion band so far," said organizer Phyllis Fowler.

"They range from professionals to those who haven't played in decades, though a lot still play, either in community bands and orchestras, or in church groups. The oldest to sign on is from the graduation class of 1956," Fowler said.

"So far they are coming from 14 states, including Florida, Minnesota, Arizona and California. I'm also keeping track of those who won't be playing in the band but still want to attend. Even one of those will be flying in from California for the concert."

Fowler said, "Mr. D was an incredible teacher and had a very strong influence on all of us."

Dombrowski will conduct a concert with his former band students at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 as part of the Bel Air Summer Concert Series.
