HBO film follows up on Down syndrome boy

Peter Gwazdauskas, subject of the earlier film Educating Peter as a third-grader with Down syndrome, remained in classes with nondisabled students through high school graduation. Filmmaker Gerardine Wurzburg returned to follow his progress from sixth grade onward in the film Graduating Peter. It airs tonight at 7:30 on HBO.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (8 p.m.-9 p.m., WUTB, Channel 24) - Buffy enlists Spike's aid in graphic, intensive training of the Potential Slayers in anticipation of the expected cataclysmic return. UPN.

American Idol (8 p.m.-9:30 p.m., WBFF, Channel 45) - There was no escaping what happened last time, and now the whole process will start over with new contestants. But acerbic "hanging judge" Simon Cowell will be back, along with his less-intimidating colleagues Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Followed by American Idol Revisited, a half-hour look back at the first season a catching-up session with former contestants. Fox.

Smallville (9 p.m.-10 p.m., WNUV, Channel 54) - After Lex discovers that Lionel installed cameras in the mansion, he hires some thugs to bug Lionel's office, but things get out of control when Lionel and Martha surprise the thugs and are taken hostage. WB.

NYPD Blue (10 p.m.-11 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) - Sipowicz and Clark investigate when a dead man is found shot in the groin, McDowell takes in her pregnant sister who is a victim of spousal abuse, and a rookie cop seduces Baldwin Jones. Repeat. ABC.

2003 Golden Globe Awards Fashion Police (10 p.m.-11 p.m., E!) - Joan Rivers and Melissa Rivers recap fashion do's and don'ts at this year's ceremony in the one-hour special, which will feature all of the styles from the award show and provide insight as to who's a fashion winner and who's a fashion victim.
