NASCAR: BH Motorsports, which had hoped to become first Winston Cup team with minority ownership, disbanded.


BLUE JAYS: Acquired OF John-Ford Griffin from Athletics for player to be named.

RANGERS: Agreed to minor-league contract with free-agent C Chad Kreuter, who was with Dodgers, and invited him to major-league camp.

REDS: Agreed to minor-league contracts with former Orioles P Kent Mercker, who had been with Rockies, and P Felix Heredia, who had been with Blue Jays, and invited them to major-league camp.

ROCKIES: Agreed to one-year contract with free-agent 3B Chris Stynes, who had been with Cubs.

ROYALS: Signed free-agent P Albie Lopez, who had been with Braves, to one-year, $1.5 million contract.

YANKEES: Single-A Michigan Battle Cats changed name to Battle Creek Yankees.

ORIX (JAPANESE PACIFIC LEAGUE): Agreed to one-year, $550,000 deal with P Masato Yoshii.


CHARLOTTE: Named Ed Tapscott executive VP.

MAVERICKS: Waived G Adam Harrington.

HAWKS: Waived G Mike Wilks.

RAPTORS: Waived C Greg Foster and G Jermaine Jackson. Announced that they will sign G Rafer Alston and F Art Long to 10-day contracts.

SUPERSONICS: Activated C Jerome James. Placed F Reggie Evans on injured list with sprained right shoulder.


AMERICAN FOOTBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION: Named following Coaches of the Year: Ohio State's Jim Tressel (Division I-A), Western Kentucky's Jack Harbaugh (I-AA), Grand Valley State's Brian Kelly (II) and Mount Union's Larry Kehres (III). Elected Tennessee's Phillip Fulmer president.

ALABAMA: Announced that freshman F Kennedy Winston, who sat out first 11 games of basketball season for receiving improper benefits in high school, regained eligibility.

AUBURN: Promoted line coach Hugh Nall to offensive coordinator. Named Steve Ensminger quarterbacks coach.

COLBY: New England Small College Athletic Conference named Sarah Walsh (Seton Keough) women's basketball Player of the Week.

GEORGIA: Announced that DT Johnathan Sullivan is forgoing senior season to enter NFL draft. Announced that football WR Fred Gibson joined basketball team.

LE MOYNE: Named Lauren O'Connor women's lacrosse coach.

LOUISIANA STATE: Announced that RB LaBrandon Toefield will enter NFL draft. Announced that offensive line coach George Yarno and defensive back coach Charlie Harbison have left the team. Named Stacy Searels offensive line coach.

LOUISVILLE: Named Jeff Brohm quarterbacks coach, Mike Gillhamer defensive coordinator, Paul Petrino offensive coordinator, Mike Summers offensive line coach, Joe Whitt Jr. cornerbacks coach and Kevin Wolthausen linebackers coach.

UMES: MEAC named G Aaron Wellington men's basketball Rookie of the Week.

OHIO STATE: Announced that football CB Nate Salley began practicing with basketball team and plans to be in uniform tomorrow night.

ST. FRANCIS (PA.): NEC named Darshan Luckey (Southern-Baltimore) men's basketball Rookie of the Week.

SOUTH CAROLINA: Gave former Kentucky basketball F Jason Parker medical clearance to begin working out.

TUSKEGEE: Announced that football coach Rick Comegy will not accept job at Norfolk State and will remain at school.

UTAH: Named Mike Sanford offensive coordinator, Mike Tuiasosopo defensive tackles coach and Kurt Barber defensive ends coach.

VIRGINIA: Announced that lacrosse players Jessy Morgan (McDonogh) and Erin Nagle (McDonogh) have signed letters of intent for the 2003-04 school year.


BILLS: Announced that contracts of linebackers coach Miles Adridge and offensive line coach Ronnie Vinklarek will not be renewed.
