Police identify teen fatally shot in Pikesville apartment building

January 07, 2003|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

The teen-ager whose body was found in the basement laundry room of an apartment building in Pikesville was identified yesterday by police as a 17-year-old freshman at the Community College of Baltimore County's Catonsville campus.

The victim, Michael Anthony Spencer II, lived in the first block of Salem Court in Pikesville, not far from 20 Warren Park Drive, where he was found fatally shot about 6 p.m. Sunday by a man believed to be a resident of Warren Park Apartments.

Spencer's father, Michael Anthony Spencer, said yesterday the killing "wasn't drug-related" or the result of criminal activity. He said his son was killed because he stepped into the middle of an argument between two other men.

Possible motives for the killing were under investigation yesterday, said Officer Shawn Vinson, a county police spokesman. He said no one has been arrested in the case.

Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for Friday at Huber Memorial Church of Christ in Baltimore.
