Democratic Club to offer analysis of last year's elections

The Carroll County Democratic Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Frisco Family Pub in Carroll Plaza Shopping Center in Westminster.

Official to discuss budget and taxes, field questions

The Carroll County Taxpayers Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Westminster Senior Center. Ted Zaleski, Carroll County's budget director, will discuss the budget and taxes, and will answer questions.

The Carroll County Taxpayers Association is an affiliate of the Maryland Taxpayers Association, a group that monitors tax legislation at the local level.

The association helps property owners read their property tax documents and protest high assessments.

All property owners are welcome.

Bon Secours to present programs of prayer, growth

Bon Secours Spiritual Center in Marriottsville has announced programs by members of the Sisters of St. Joseph. They include:

"Opening to Divine Presence: A Day of Yoga and Contemplative Prayer" from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday with presenter Kathy Donnelly. The day will focus on appreciating one's body and encouraging one's inner radiance to shine. Experience is not necessary. Participants should wear comfortable clothing. The cost is $45.

"Drumming Circle for Peace" at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 13. Mary Ann Mulzet will be the presenter. The circle will include an hour of drumming, prayer and silence. Participants who have drums, rattles or rhythm instruments are encouraged to take them. Donations are requested.

"Family of Origin: Ground of Grace, Grist for Conversion" from 5 p.m. Jan. 17 to 1 p.m. Jan. 19 with Rita Woehlcke. This retreat will offer input and reflection on one's family of origin, and practical tools for related prayer. The cost is $185 to stay or $160 to commute.

"Contemplative Day of Prayer" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 20 with Martha Campbell and Mary Ann Mulzet. The focus will be to practice Lectio Divina and centering prayer. The day will consist of silence and three brief gatherings for teaching and prayer according to these traditional contemplative prayer forms. Experience is not necessary. The cost is $40 and includes lunch.

King memorial celebration slated for 5 p.m. Jan. 19

The eighth annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Celebration for Carroll County will be held at 5 p.m. Jan. 19 at St. Joseph Catholic Community Church in Eldersburg.

Those attending are asked to bring enough food - covered dishes, bread and dessert - plates and utensils for their families and four other people. Beverages will be provided.

The church is at 915 Liberty Road.

Family center's programs highlight `resolutions'

The Carroll County Family Center will offer activities for member families this month. The theme for the month is "New Year's Resolutions."

The adult education class will take a field trip to Carroll Community College on Wednesday to learn about available programs.

The center will be closed Jan. 20 for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

A Super Bowl Celebration will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 22. Children's games, crafts and a hot lunch are planned.

Registration is required for all programs.

The center offers adult education, counseling, health care/education, parent and child activities, parent education, life-skills training and recreation for families in need.
