A Howard County man was in serious condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center after being run over by a car and a Virginia man was arrested and charged with attempted murder and first-degree assault, Howard police said.

The victim, whom police did not identify, sustained injuries to the lower part of his body and was run over after an argument with two people, police said. Another man was being sought.

Police said the vehicle struck the Howard man about 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 9100 block of Gross Ave. The victim had argued with two men at a house in the 9200 block of Scaggsville Road in North Laurel, and when he left, the two suspects chased him with a car and ran over him, police said.

Police would not say what the argument was about.

Douglas Smith, 45, of Fairfax, Va., was arrested at the scene. The other suspect drove off in the car, police said.
