Aquillia T. Edwards, 54, civil engineer for agency

Aquillia T. Edwards, a retired State Highway Administration civil engineer, died of undetermined causes Friday at his Northeast Baltimore home. He was 54.

Mr. Edwards worked for the state agency from 1969 until retiring in 1995. His specialty was soil testing.

Born in Snow Hill, N.C., Mr. Edwards was raised in Northeast Baltimore. After graduating from City College in 1965, he enlisted in the Army. He served in Vietnam as a military policeman until 1968.

He was an avid basketball fan and enjoyed playing pinochle.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills.

Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife of 36 years, the former Laurencene Hunter; a son, Kevin T. Edwards of Baltimore; a daughter, Antonese E. Smith of Havre de Grace; a brother, Howard E. Edwards of Baltimore; two sisters, Joan S. Edwards and Deborah Edwards, both of Baltimore; and five grandchildren.
