Man who police say fired at cars dies after being shot

A 19-year-old Midtown resident died yesterday after being shot Friday by a man whose car he sprayed with bullets, Baltimore police said.

Police said Andre Lamont Hill of the 400 block of E. Biddle Ave. approached a vehicle waiting at a red light at Biddle and Harford avenues about 10:20 p.m. Friday and fired numerous shots.

A motorist waiting behind the first vehicle fired back after his car also was hit by bullets, striking Hill several times in the head, Baltimore homicide Detective Dave Peckoo said.

The man who shot Hill was "a citizen on his way home," the detective said. "He had a permit to carry the gun he was carrying."

Hill, who died at a hospital yesterday morning, apparently had been targeting the first vehicle. It fled before police arrived, Peckoo said.

The motive for the attack was unknown.
