Collision in Govans kills Towson woman, 52, riding in car

A Towson woman died early Saturday in the Govans area of the city after a car struck the vehicle in which she was a passenger, police said.

About 2:30 a.m., witnesses say, a Pontiac Sunbird driving north ran a red light at York and Beaumont roads, striking a Saturn making a left turn onto Beaumont, police said. The Pontiac pushed the Saturn into the northeast curb and onto its side, said Officer Richard J. McCarthy of Baltimore police accident investigation unit.

Dorothy Dolores Gwynn, 52, of the 200 block of Eudowood Lane suffered lacerations to her head and internal injuries. She was taken to Johns Hopkins Medical Center. Gwynn was the middle passenger in the rear seat of the vehicle. The other three passengers and the driver suffered minor injuries.

No one in the Pontiac was injured. The accident is under investigation, McCarthy said.

West-side house fire kills elderly couple

An elderly couple perished in a fire in their West Baltimore home yesterday morning, Baltimore Fire Department officials said.

Firefighters responded to a call at 6:39 a.m. and found the bodies of a man and woman in their home in the 600 block of Allendale Road. Fire officials would not release their names and ages until relatives were notified.

The cause of the fire was under investigation but did not seem suspicious, said Kevin Cartwright, public information officer.
