Juanita Grace Dates, 73, medical records supervisor

Juanita Grace Dates, a retired medical records supervisor for Johns Hopkins Hospital, died of colon cancer Thursday at Long Green Eldercare Center. She was 73.

A longtime Northeast Baltimore resident, she was born and raised Juanita Grace Wiggins in Reedville, Va., and attended Virginia Union University.

After moving to Baltimore, she went to work in 1957 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She retired in 1988.

Mrs. Dates was married in 1945 to Howard W. Dates Jr., a longshoreman who died in 1964.

A deeply religious woman, Mrs. Dates was an active communicant of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, where she was a lector and a member of the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Mrs. Dates enjoyed traveling and had made a religious pilgrimage to Lourdes, France. She also collected religious figurines, and ceramic and glass bells, which she displayed in her home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. today at St. Ann, Greenmount Avenue and 22nd Street.

Mrs. Dates is survived by two sons, Howard W. Dates III of Baltimore and Myron K. Dates of Owings Mills, and two grandchildren. Another son, Allyn B. Dates, died in 1998.
