Long & Foster to give $1,000 scholarships to 125 students

Long & Foster Real Estate has increased its scholarship program to $125,000 for high school seniors entering an accredited four-year college or university.

The Long & Foster program will award $1,000 to 125 recipients throughout its sales area - Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia - for the 2003-2004 academic year. The scholarship award will be paid directly to the college or university on the student's behalf.

The deadline for applying is March 3. More than 1,100 applicants vied for 100 scholarships this year.

P. Wesley Foster Jr., president and founder of Long & Foster, conceived of the scholarship as a way to give something back to the communities that have made his real estate company successful.

Eligible high school seniors must have at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and demonstrate financial need. Applicants must also list their positions of student leadership and memberships in school and community groups.

Applications for the Long & Foster Scholarship Program can be obtained from the company's residential sales offices, from high school guidance counselors, and on Long & Foster's Web site, www.longandfoster .com.
