Business Expo planned for Friday at Annapolis hotel

The Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Business Expo on Friday at the Radisson Hotel in Annapolis.

The day will begin with the chamber's monthly power breakfast at 7:30 a.m.

The expo will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

An after-hours mixer at the hotel will conclude the expo.

Admission to the expo is $5, or free with a ticket.

The event is sponsored by the Community PhoneBook; Alexander and Cleaver, Attorneys at Law; Severn Graphics; and Wash and Associates. Each will hold a 45-minute roundtable discussion about its field of expertise.

The expo will feature more than 55 local businesses, ranging from home-improvement companies to investment advisers.

Workshop will teach marketing strategies

SCORE Chapter 390 and the Small Business Administration will conduct a workshop for small businesses, "Developing a Marketing Strategy," from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 22 at the YWCA at 1517 Ritchie Highway in Arnold.

The workshop will cover topics such as market research, sales, advertising and trade shows. The fee is $45. Registration is required.

Residents to be honored at annual chamber gala

The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Celebrate Community Gala from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Ramada Inn/BWI Hotel in Hanover.

The gala recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding residents in western Anne Arundel County. Honorees will include the police officer, firefighter, military service member and business of the year. Three outstanding educators will be recognized.

The gala will feature a cocktail reception, door prizes and gourmet foods. Martha Smith, president of Anne Arundel Community College, will speak.

The cost is $65 a person. Reservations are necessary.

Networking group to hold lunch meeting

The Severna Park Thursday Luncheon Chapter of Business Network International will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Ledo Pizza, 552 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park.

Group member Jackie Lamothe will discuss the benefits of word-of-mouth marketing.

The networking group's primary purpose is to help other members increase their business by referring clients to them. It is the largest networking organization of its kind, with more than 1,836 chapters internationally and more than 60 in the area.

BWI fair: The seventh annual BWI Business Networking Fair will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 21 at the BWI Marriott, West Nursery Road, Linthicum. The theme for this year's fair - "Changing Environment, New Opportunities" - refers to the world of aviation since the terrorist attacks and to the airport's continuing growth. 410-859-7949.
