October 05, 2002|By Kevin Van Valkenburg

Navy (1-3) at Air Force (4-0)

Site: Falcon Stadium, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Time: 3:05 p.m.

Radio: WJFK (1300 AM), WNAV (1430 AM)

Line: Air Force by 23

Series: Air Force leads 24-10

Last meeting: Air Force won, 24-18, last year at FedEx Field in Landover.

Last game: Duke defeated Navy, 43-17; Air Force defeated Utah, 30-26.

Navy offense vs. Air Force defense: It's the same story each week for Navy. The Mids move the ball but can't hold on to it. Fullback Kyle Eckel and slot back Eric Roberts need to create big plays and cut down on turnovers for Navy to have a chance. Air Force gives up only 122.5 yards a game on the ground.

Navy defense vs. Air Force offense: So far this season, the Mids haven't stopped anyone. Navy is giving up 41 points a game to rank 111 out of 117 Division I teams in scoring defense. Linebackers Andy Sinitiere, Eddie Carthan and Ben Mathews will need to play well to shut down Air Force's running attack, which is led by quarterback Chance Harridge (81 carries, 350 yards, 7 touchdowns).

Special teams: On kickoffs, Navy would do well just to hold on to the ball. Roberts has fumbled on kickoff returns in three straight games.
