One killed, one hurt as car hits wall on I-795

OWINGS MILLS - A Baltimore woman was killed and a city man was injured when the car he was driving hit the median wall on Interstate 795 north of the Beltway during evening rush-hour yesterday, state police said.

The car was northbound when it crossed four lanes and struck the wall about 6:30 p.m., state police said. The woman was killed on impact and the man was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, state police said. He was listed in critical condition last night.

The names of the driver and passenger were being withheld until relatives are notified.

Two-alarm fire damages ship at Sparrows Point

SPARROWS POINT - A two-alarm fire damaged an 800-foot ship that was in dry dock at Baltimore Marine Industries in Sparrows Point yesterday, Baltimore County fire officials said. No injuries were reported.

The fire in the engine room of the MIV Anderson was spotted by a yard supervisor about 8:10 p.m., according to an official at Sparrows Point. There was no immediate estimate of damage.
