Vernon Rauch, a longtime Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. employee, died of prostate cancer Sept. 24 at Richey House in Baltimore. The Woodlawn resident was 90.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Woodlawn, Mr. Rauch left school in the ninth grade to help support his family.

He began working at BGE's Lexington Street headquarters as an office boy in 1928 and retired in 1975 as an electric substation operator.

During the 1930s and 1940s, he played drums with Billy Isaac's Band in Baltimore.

An avid woodworker, Mr. Rauch constructed an addition to his home and enjoyed building furniture in his basement workshop.

He had been a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Woodlawn.

Services were held Saturday.

Mr. Rauch is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Beatrice Viola Hyatt; and a son, Vernon D. Rauch of Heath, Ohio.
