Section of Uniontown Road to close today for improvements

Westminster will make improvements to Uniontown Road between New Windsor Road (Route 31) and West Main Street starting today.

Meekins Construction Inc. of Finksburg will pave and install new retaining walls, an 8-inch water main, storm drains and concrete curbs.

Residents, emergency vehicles and school buses will have access to the closed portion of the road.

Construction will continue through spring. Paving is expected to be complete by early summer.

Class of 1972 reunion planned with homecoming

Westminster High School Class of 1972 will hold its 30th class reunion during the school's homecoming celebrations Friday and Saturday.

Activities will begin with the football game at 7 p.m. Friday in the school stadium.

A reunion party will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Riding Club. Dress is casual. Light food will be served, and a cash bar will be open. Disc jockey Jammin' Jimmy will provide music. Tickets are $25.

The reunion committee is searching for missing classmates.

Westminster library plans events for kids

The Westminster library branch, 50 E. Main St., will offer:

"Year-round Family Story Time" for all ages (children age 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult) at 7 p.m. tomorrow, 1 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. Saturday.

"Rock 'n' Roll Over Dead," a library mystery program for teens, at 7 p.m. today. A music librarian is found dead just before a Battle of the Bands. Participants will become the characters and find the murderer. Registration is required.

"Become a Math Whiz" for teens at 10 a.m. Saturday. Joseph Esposito will help middle school pupils solve math problems. Children should take paper, pencils and math homework to the weekly sessions.

"Rock 'n' Read" for all ages (age 3 and younger with an adult) at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 7. Members of the community will read to children, who pick a variety of books.

"Let's Talk Classics" for adults at 7 p.m. Oct. 10. The monthly program focuses on classic literature and children's literature. This month's selection is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Bingo: Westminster Elks Lodge 2277 holds bingo every Tuesday at 538 Gorsuch Road. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., early bird bingo starts at 6:45 p.m., and regular bingo follows. Door prizes will be awarded, and jackpot of $500 is available. 410-848- 2277.
