Networking group to welcome visitors at lunch meeting

The Severna Park Thursday Luncheon Chapter of Business Network International, a professional networking organization, will hold a Visitors Day meeting at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 10 at Ledo Pizza, 552 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park.

Jackie Lamothe will discuss word-of-mouth marketing.

Membership in BNI chapters is restricted to one representative of a profession. Group members refer clients to other group members.

There is no charge to attend, but the meal will cost $10.

Chamber schedules community awards gala

The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Celebrate Community Gala from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Ramada Inn BWI in Hanover.

The gala recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding residents in western Anne Arundel County.

Awards include the police officer, firefighter, military member and business of the year. Three outstanding educators also will be honored.

The event will include a cocktail reception, door prizes and food. Martha Smith, president of Anne Arundel Community College, will speak. The cost is $65.

Annapolis Inn listed in Conde Nast guide

The Annapolis Inn, 144 Prince George St., has been selected for Conde Nast's 2003 North American edition of Johansens Recommended Hotels, Inns and Resorts.

Conde Nast's other publications include Vogue, Conde Nast Traveler, Vanity Fair, House & Garden and GQ.

For the guide, representatives inspect and recommend accommodations around the world that offer diversity and excellence.

Hampton Inn and Suites opens near airport, mall

Skye Hospitality Inc. has opened a Hampton Inn and Suites near Arundel Mills mall and Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

The Hampton is the company's third lodging center. Three other properties are in development; one is a Residence Inn by Marriott, which is also next to Arundel Mills and is expected to open early next year.

People

Director: Sara E. Meinsler has been named director of social services for Ginger Cove, an Annapolis community that is home to more than 350 retirees. Meinsler holds a master's degree in social work, with an emphasis in clinical concentration and aging specialization, from the University of Maryland.

Business Expo: The Business Expo, sponsored by the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce, will be held Oct. 11 at the Radisson Annapolis. A power breakfast will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and the expo will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. A mixer is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Inquiries should be sent to the chamber, P.O. Networking fair: The seventh annual BWI Business Networking Fair will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 21 at the BWI Marriott, West Nursery Road, Linthicum. The theme for this year's fair, "Changing Environment, New Opportunities," reflects changes in the world of aviation since the terrorist attacks last year and the airport's continuing growth. 410-859-7949.

SCORE Workshop: SCORE Chapter 390 will conduct a workshop for small businesses from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 22 at the YWCA, 1517 Ritchie Highway, Arnold.
