An 11-year-old girl walking with friends last night in Southeast Baltimore was shot in the leg and taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The group was on Fort View Way in O'Donnell Heights when gunshots were heard, police said.

The 11-year-old started running, said Officer Nicole Monroe of the city police public affairs section. "She felt a sharp pain in her left leg, and she realized she had been shot."

Police said last night that they did not know who was shooting, or why. Detectives were searching the area.

In a second shooting last night in Baltimore, a 20-year-old woman was shot in the head and thigh by another woman in the 2900 block of Mosher St., police said.

Police said the woman was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was conscious. They said the shooting appeared to stem from a long-standing argument between the women. Investigators were looking for witnesses.
