Candidates Night slated Oct. 22 in N. Laurel

The North Laurel Civic Association will hold a Candidates Night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 22 at Laurel Woods Elementary School. Candidates for Howard County executive, County Council, state Senate, House of Delegates and the Board of Education are invited.

Each candidate will make a brief introductory statement, take written questions from members of the audience and meet with them.

Light refreshments will be served.

Hammond Middle PTA Garage Sale set Oct. 12

The PTA of Hammond Middle School will hold its fall Garage Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at the school, 8110 Aladdin Drive, North Laurel.

The rain date is Oct. 13.

Sellers may sign up for as many spaces as needed, with a two-space minimum. The cost for two spaces is $10. Each additional space is $5. Spaces must be reserved by Tuesday. Registration forms are available in the school's front office.

`Worldly Reader' program Oct. 8 at Savage library

The Savage library branch, 9525 Durness Lane, will introduce readers to contemporary novels from India, Japan, China, Russia, Ireland, Iceland, England and Spain in a program titled "The Worldly Reader" at 7 p.m. Oct. 8.

Daryl Sue Caplan, a lawyer, will present "Estate Planning Made Easy" at 10 a.m. Oct. 12. She will discuss wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advanced medical directives and other tools to help individuals protect assets during their lives and plan for their families' futures.

Agewell exercise: Savage Senior Center, 9525 Durness Lane, is planning a Level 1 50+ Agewell exercise class at 11 a.m. Wednesdays. The emphasis will be on reducing arthritic pain and stiffness and improving balance. The exercises can be done standing or sitting. Expo: Howard County's KidsFest 2002 will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at Historic Savage Mill, 8600 Foundry St., Savage. The free, daylong expo for families will feature children's activities, entertainment, exhibits, information and demonstrations. 410-313-1940.
