Annapolis man, 21, in hospital after shooting; 2 sought

An Annapolis man was shot multiple times early yesterday at College Creek Terrace, Annapolis police said.

Carlester Sellman Jr., 21, of the 200 block of Gross Ave. was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center around 3 a.m., police said. He was in serious condition.

Sellman told police that two men approached him as he stood on the street. The three had a brief conversation before one of the men pulled a handgun and shot Sellman once in the chest and once in the abdomen, said Officer Hal Dalton, a spokesman for Annapolis police.

Sellman gave police the names of the men, who are being sought for questioning, officials said.

54 students honored in scholars program

More than 50 students in Anne Arundel County public high schools were named finalists and semifinalists last week in Maryland's Distinguished Scholar Program.

Thirty finalists will receive a $3,000 annual scholarship for four years if they attend a public or private college in Maryland. An additional 24 Anne Arundel students were semifinalists.

The program is administered by the Maryland Higher Education Commission and awards $4.2 million in scholarships statewide every year.
