Access to airport from I-195 will be limited Oct. 4 to 6

Access to Baltimore-Washington International Airport from Interstate 195 will be limited from Oct. 4 to 6.

The highway will be closed near the Route 170 exits at 10 p.m. Oct. 4 and will reopen at 6 a.m. Oct. 5. All traffic to the airport will be diverted to Elm Road via Route 170 during the closure. During this period, the Maryland Transit Administration will suspend light rail service to BWI, but shuttle service will be provided to the airport

At 6 a.m. Oct. 5, one lane of I-195 will be opened for traffic to the terminal. At the same time Oct. 6, a second lane will be opened. Beginning at 6 a.m. Oct. 7, all three I-195 inbound lanes will be open.

Elm Road lanes to close near car return area

Some lanes on Elm Road near BWI's rental-car return area will be closed between midnight and 5 a.m. Thursday due to road work in the area. The work is part of utility improvements related to the airport's expansion program.

Flight schedules are light during the lane closures, airport officials said.

For more information about construction at BWI, go to the airport's Web site at www.bwi airport.com, or call 1-800-I-FLY- BWI.

United moves to Pier D because of construction

Because of the reconstruction of BWI's Pier A, United Airlines has moved its ticketing and flight operations to Pier D.

United ticket counters are next to AirTran Airways on Pier D, just before the entrance to the international pier. The airline is operating its flights from gates D11, D13 and D15.

Passengers should check the flight information screens at the airport or visit the BWI Web site for specific gate assignments.
