New positions

Thales Communications promotes Verna Wright

Thales Communications Inc. promoted Verna J. Wright to director of program management for the Clarksburg-based defense electronics company. An electrical engineering graduate of the University of Kentucky, the Ellicott City resident has been with Thales since 1997.

Yasko is hired to manage Towson U. radio station

Towson University hired Stephen Yasko as general manager of its public radio station, WTMD-FM. He oversees station operations, fund-raising and audience development. A graduate of American University and the University of Maryland, College Park, the Anne Arundel County resident was formerly national program marketing and operations manager for National Public Radio.

Banking

1st Mariner promotes two people, hires another

1st Mariner Bank promoted Robert Shields to vice president of the bank's mortgage department and Jennifer Filling to assistant vice president of retail banking compliance. The Canton headquartered bank also hired Amy Whiteley as commercial lending manager.

Shields is responsible for management of the bank and mortgage referral program, mortgage Web site and specialty lending program. He has been with 1st Mariner since 1996 and attended Anne Arundel Community College.

Filling has responsibility for branch audits and departmental compliance reviews. A graduate of Villa Julie College, she was formerly with First Union Bank.

Whiteley, assigned to the Cockeysville branch, is responsible for generating and processing mid-size commercial loans in northern Baltimore County. She was formerly with Sparks Bank and is a graduate of the Maryland Banking School.

Commercial real estate

Nottingham hires Teeling, promotes Janeann Streat

Nottingham Properties Inc. named Peter L. Teeling executive vice president of Nottingham Management Co. Teeling, who was regional vice president of Prentiss Properties, is responsible for the operations and performance of Nottingham Management, which manages the company's real estate portfolio as well as select properties in metropolitan Baltimore.

Nottingham also promoted Janeann Streat to marketing manager. In her new position, Streat, who has been with the company since 1990, is responsible for the management of Nottingham's advertising, public relations, promotions and special events.

Professional

Architecture consultant names vice president

Whitney, Bailey, Cox & Magnani named Reed A. Kiefer vice president of the architecture department of the Towson-based architectural consulting firm. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, he was formerly a principal with R.A. Keifer Architects in Alexandria, Va.
