Red Sox update

Boston swept a four-game series in Tampa Boston swept a four-game series in Tampa but is fading from the playoff picture. The Red Sox are 7 1/2 games back of Oakland and Anaheim in the wild-card race. They are 6-7 in their past 13 home games. They're 44-22 against the AL East. These teams haven't met since their brawl at Fenway Park on July 28. Scott Erickson hit Manny Ramirez, Lowe hit Gary Matthews, and the benches and bullpens emptied. Melvin Mora and Willis Roberts appealed their suspensions, and coincidentally, should find out today if the punishments have been reduced. Lowe has beaten the Orioles twice, shutting them out over 13 innings. Burkett has one victory since going the distance to defeat the Orioles on July 27. Lopez is 3-0 against Boston, with two of the wins coming on the road. The Orioles are 4-8 against the Red Sox this season, including 2-4 at Fenway. At least the Orioles miss Pedro Martinez, who practically owns them. He just came off the disabled list.
