The story of `Plantzilla'

BEST BETS

September 12, 2002|By Molly Knight

When Mortimer Henryson, the star of Jerdine Nolen's new book, Plantzilla, pushes his parents to let him bring home a school plant for the summer, he has no idea what's in store for him or his family. Although the Henrysons' house guest is just a vine when it arrives, it grows into something beyond any of their imaginations.

To find out what happens when a plant blooms to humanlike proportions, drop by Barnes & Noble in Ellicott City this Saturday to hear Nolen read from Plantzilla. A Baltimore resident, Nolen has won numerous awards, including the Smithsonian Magazine Notable Book for Children Award for one of her earlier works, Raising Dragons.

Plantzilla is a page-turner for kids of all ages, full of both hair-raising and hilarious moments. Join Nolen to hear this imaginative tale, and enjoy the colorful illustrations in the book. Afterward, the author will sign copies of her book.

Nolen will read at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble in Ellicott City, 4300 Montgomery Road. Call 410-203-9001.
