Cultural center's book explores escapes of slaves

Howard County Center of African-American Culture's new book, Seeking Freedom: A History of the Underground Railroad in Howard County, Maryland, presents an overview of two centuries of Howard County history.

The book discusses slavery, the county and contributions made by local African-Americans. The book sells for $31.50, including tax.

The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor "One-Day Crafts" for people age 55 and older from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Florence Bain Senior Center, 5470 Keeton Way.

Refreshments will be provided.
