Three Players To Watch

Nfl Week 1

September 08, 2002|By Ken Murray

Rams RT John St. Clair: He hasn't played a snap in a regular-season game, and he has to protect MVP quarterback Kurt Warner against the Broncos.

Titans RB Eddie George: After an injury-marred season, George (right) rededicated himself. Against the Eagles, we find out if it worked or if he's on a downward cycle.

Browns WR Kevin Johnson: One year after Dick Vermeil said Johnson wasn't worth a third-round pick, he gets a chance to answer the Chiefs' coach.

THE HONORS

Game of the week: Steelers at Patriots. The Steelers have a new special teams coach, but the same quarterback - Kordell Stewart - who couldn't solve the Patriots' defense in last January's AFC title game.

Dog of the week: Ravens at Panthers. Nobody expects anything out of the Ravens this season. In Carolina, things are so bad that 36-year-old Rodney Peete will start. That's dreadful.

Upset of the week: Chiefs over Browns. Butch Davis sounds like he prefers to save Tim Couch for another day. The Chiefs wouldn't mind facing Kelly Holcomb.
