Art teachers' works to be on exhibit at Arts Council gallery

The Carroll County Arts Council will feature works by Carroll County public school teachers in an exhibit opening tomorrow and running through Oct. 11.

A reception for the artists will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 in the gallery at 15 E. Main St., Westminster.

The exhibit features works by more than 20 art teachers, including Robert Anker, Ruth Aukerman, Bonnie Baber, Brigitte Delzingaro, Valerie Estes, Holly Ferraro, Stan Gilmore, Teresa Greenberg, Joyce Harrison, Mary Mark Munday, Jim Roberts, Jeff Sharp, Melodie Taylor and Christine Wenderoth.

County schools with participating artists represented include Westminster, Liberty, South Carroll, North Carroll and Francis Scott Key high schools, East Middle and Robert Moton Elementary.

Viola, clarinet featured at Monday Night Music

Monday Night Music presents Alto Voices, a concert featuring violist Peggy Ward and clarinetist David Duree, at 7 p.m. Monday in McDaniel Lounge at McDaniel College in Westminster.

The concert is free. The alto voices of viola and clarinet will be compared, contrasted and woven interchangeably on compositions from romantic to modern.

The program premieres the newly published work Prelude, Allegro and Pastorale for B Flat Clarinet & Viola, written in 1941 by Rebecca Clarke.

Ward and Duree will be assisted by John Wickelgren, a member of the Frederick Community College music faculty.

Children's fall classes held at Arts Council

The Carroll County Arts Council has announced its fall classes for children.

All classes are held at the Arts Council Gallery at 15 E. Main St., Westminster and begin in early October. Students must register at least two weeks in advance of the start date.

Visual arts classes include: Action Art - Animal Anatomy for ages 9-12; Nature Drawing & Journaling for ages 8-11; Mommy & Me Art for ages 3-5; Basic Drawing & Painting for ages 6--8; Introduction to Drawing for ages 8 -- 11; Beginning Watercolor for ages 11-14; Comic Creations for Beginners for ages 10-13; Magnetic Toy Theatre for ages 6-8; Art Time Travel for ages 5-7.

Art for homeschoolers includes: Basic Drawing & Painting; Art & Art History (Part I) for ages 11-14.

Performing Arts classes include: It's Magic for ages 8-12; Exploring Theatre for ages 9-11; In the Spotlight for ages 11-14; Adventures in Acting for ages 6-8.

Masterworks Chorale is recruiting singers

The Masterworks Chorale of Carroll County, formerly the Westminster Choral Arts Society, will begin its 2002-2003 season this fall under the direction of Margaret Boudreaux.

Singers are being recruited for all voice parts. Rehearsals will be held Tuesday evenings, beginning next week.

Boudreaux is music department chair and director of choral activities at McDaniel College.

Poetry, music program Thursday at Arts Council

Common Ground on the Hill and One Tree Productions are sponsoring an evening of poetry and music from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Carroll County Arts Council gallery, 15 E. Main St.

Poetry and music will be presented by Shawn Lockhart, Susan Beverly and Daniel Abbott Armstrong.

Admission is $2 for Arts Council nonmembers.
