Today

No. 10 Annapolis (0-0) at No. 6 Meade (0-0)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: After losing this big season-opener, 28-6, last fall, Meade (10-2 last year) didn't lose again until the Class 4A state semifinals. Annapolis (8-3 last year) went onto the 3A quarterfinals. Each is a county and playoff contender again, which means a lot of playoff points for the winner down the road. Senior running back Hassan Muhammad II makes his Anne Arundel County debut with the Mustangs after playing at Oakland Mills and Cardinal Gibbons and will be one of several speedy running backs on both sides.

Arundel (0-0) at No. 4 Old Mill (0-0)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: Seeking their fourth straight playoff berth and that elusive first-ever postseason win, the Patriots (8-3 last year) play host to a much improved Wildcats team that will be looking to avenge last year's 41-12 loss. Arundel (3-7 last year) expects to score a lot with quarterback Bobby Schram throwing to a number of wide receivers, led by Justin Lee.

Chesapeake (0-0) at North County (0-0)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: Senior running back Nick Bowen, who led the county in rushing last year with 1,482 yards and 17 touchdowns, begins his assault on the all-time Cougars rushing records set by Brandon Steinheim (1990-92). A big year by Bowen could result in the team's first winning season under 15-year coach Tom Kraning.

Broadneck (0-0) at Severna Park (0-0)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: Premier linebacker Preston Pehrson is the Bruins' only returning defensive starter, and second-team All-County quarterback Fred Steinmark leads a little more experienced offense against the expected-to-be-improved and speedy Falcons.

South River (0-0) at Glen Burnie (0-0)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: The host Gophers have another giant lineman, New Jersey-transfer Brandon Albert (6-7, 340), who plays both offense and defense. With 1,000-yard rusher Mike Klug and an experienced defense, the Hawks look to start strong.

St. Mary's (0-0) at Northeast (0-0)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: The visiting Saints come into Pasadena with a size advantage, led by returning All-County defensive lineman Brendan Teague. While St. Mary's is an Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference contender, the Eagles look to keep it going with a host of key seniors after a series of dismal seasons in the late 1990s.

No. 3 McDonogh (0-0) at Severn (0-0)

Time: 2:30 p.m.

Outlook: Co-champions in the MIAA B Conference last season, the host Admirals open with the A Conference power Eagles and are in a rebuilding mode.

Tomorrow

Archbishop Spalding (0-0) at Allegany (0-0)

Time: 7 p.m.

Outlook: After dropping their season opener by 19-16 at Bowling Brook last week, the Cavs visit the defending Class 1A state champion Campers in Cumberland.

Saturday

Northern-Garrett (0-0) at Southern-AA (0-0)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: If a turnout of over 100 players at the county's smallest school in Harwood is any indication, the host Bulldogs begin what should be a run to the 2A playoffs for the first time since 1993.
