WINE OF THE WEEK

September 04, 2002|By Michael Dresser

2000 Hugel Gewurztraminer, Alsace ($18). This textbook Alsace gewurztraminer combines the virtues of high quality and widespread distribution. It's a dry, full-bodied white wine with a delightful mix of flavors - lemon, baked apple, honey, nutmeg and cinnamon and other spices. It shows a clean, dry finish with impressive grip. This wine, which can be drunk now or cellared at least five years, can be served with a wide variety of foods, including pate, spicy Asian dishes, turkey, pork, ham or sausages.
