Today's games

Morgan State (0-0) at Gardner-Webb (0-0)

Site: Ernest W. Spangler Stadium, Boiling Springs, N.C.

Time: 6 p.m.

Radio: WEAA (88.9 FM)

Series: First meeting

Outlook: New Morgan State coach Donald Hill-Eley makes his debut against a Gardner-Webb team entering its third season in Division I-AA. Morgan is led by explosive junior QB Lejominick Washington, who completed 50.5 percent of his passes last year. Senior TB T.J. Stallings is a dual threat as a runner and receiver. The return of junior TB William DeShazo (missed all last season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament) should help the Bears, who will be out to rebound from a 2-9 season.

Bowie State (0-0) at West Virginia State (0-0)

Site: Laidley Field, Charleston, W.Va.

Time: 2 p.m.

Series: West Virginia State leads 2-1

Outlook: Bowie lost starting QB/P Kernis Faison, when it was discovered he has no eligibility left, and senior DL Rico Walker, who broke his left elbow and will be out five weeks. Redshirt freshman QB Maurice Hill and freshman K Mehmet Hazar will be starters for the Bulldogs, who are coming off a surprising 7-3 season. West Virginia State was 4-7 last season.
