UMBC named to list of 12 `hottest schools'

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County has been named one of the nation's 12 "hottest schools" in Newsweek's new college guide.

The magazine pointed to UMBC's high numbers of undergraduates who are involved in research and go on to graduate and professional schools after commencement. It also mentioned the university's Meyerhoff Scholarship Program for minorities in science and engineering.

Other schools designated as "hot" include the University of North Carolina, McGill University, Boston College and George Washington University.
