Waterspouts seen as storms pass by

As a storm system passed over Central and Southern Maryland yesterday afternoon, several sightings of waterspouts were reported to the National Weather Service.

Two waterspouts were sighted over the Potomac River near Cobb Island about 10:15 a.m. Forty minutes later, one was spotted near the Bay Bridge off Queens Island.

At 11 a.m., another waterspout was spotted over the Potomac River near Morgantown, in southern Charles County, and a fifth one was reported to the weather service at 11:21 a.m. near Faulkner, also in southern Charles County.

As a result of the sightings in Charles County, the weather service issued a tornado warning at 11:24 a.m. The warning was called off by noon.

No injuries were reported from any of the waterspouts.
