Taneytown fire company prepares for car show

Taneytown Volunteer Fire Department will hold its fifth annual car show from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the carnival grounds.

The show is open to antique cars, hot rods, customs, and special-interest vehicles and trucks. The first 200 entries will receive dash plaques.

Registration, which is $10 in advance and $12 the day of the show, includes a meal ticket and a goody bag.

Car registration will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, and awards will be given at 3:30 p.m.

Activities will include a 50/50 raffle and music by the Dixie Hiway Band.

The carnival grounds are at Memorial Park off Route 140.

@SUBHEDAll-night bingo event scheduled for Sept. 6

Pleasant Valley Community Fire Company will hold all-night bingo starting at 6 p.m. Sept. 6 at the fire hall.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., and a fried chicken dinner will be served until games begin at 8 p.m.

The event will include 108 bingo games and door prizes. Coffee and iced tea will be served all night.

Tickets are $30 by advance reservation only, which is due by Sept. 4.

The fire hall is at 2030 S. Pleasant Valley Road.

@SUBHEDRod and gun club plans crab feast next month

Taneytown Rod and Gun Club will hold a crab feed from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at the club home.

Tickets are $22. The menu will include steamed crabs, fried chicken, sharp cheese, crab soup, hot dogs and sauerkraut.

The club encourages people to buy tickets in advance by calling 410-751-1685.

Golf tournament to benefit Taneytown fire company

Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company will hold its second golf tournament at 8 a.m. Sept. 14 at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Gettysburg.

The entry fee is $50, and proceeds will benefit the fire company. The scramble-format tournament includes contests for closest to the pin, longest drive and a 50/50 raffle. A luncheon will be held after play.

Entry deadline is Sept. 5. The golf course is at 1225 Barlow Two Taverns Road.

Navy's East completes course on electronics

Navy Seaman John W. East recently completed the Cryptologic Technician Electronic Technology Course at Naval Technical Training Center, Corry Station, Pensacola, Fla.

During the course, students received basic instruction in electronics theory, maintenance, digital logic, computer fundamentals, electronic fundamentals of power supplies and superhetrodyne receivers.

He is the son of Lynda and James East of Union Bridge. The 2001 graduate of Linganore High School of Frederick County joined the Navy in September.
