Charles William Grim, owner of a car dealership in Ellicott City for a quarter-century, died of pneumonia Aug. 15 at St. Agnes HealthCare. He was 69.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Mr. Grim was a 1951 graduate of City College. His engineering studies at the University of Maryland, College Park were halted by activation of his Naval Reserve unit and service on the battleship USS Mississippi in the Korean War.

After his discharge, Mr. Grim went to work for Ford Motor Co. in the Washington district office, working as a service representative to Ford dealerships in the Maryland and Virginia areas, an executive-level position.

In 1963, he moved to Ellicott City to join the Parlett Brothers Ford dealership. In 1972, Mr. Grim bought the dealership and renamed it Normandy Ford Inc. He owned the dealership until 1997.

During his years in business, he was a member of the Rotary Club of Columbia and served for 18 years on the Board of Commercial and Farmers Bank of Ellicott City, now Farmers and Mechanics Bank.

He and his wife of 49 years, the former Esther A. "Pat" Keeney, were longtime members of Turf Valley Country Club, where Mr. Grim was a regular golfer until he became ill from a cerebral hemorrhage in 1991. They also loved to travel in the United States, Europe, South America and the Caribbean.

Services are private.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Grim is survived by four daughters, Susan Tillman of Glenwood, Charyl Breidenstein of Ellicott City, Amy Lederer of Westminster and Jennifer Wickwire of West Friendship; a sister, Audrey Sperlein of Baltimore; a brother, Kenneth Grim of Simsbury, Conn.; and 10 grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial donations to the building fund of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 52, Glenwood 21738, where he was a member.
